Founded in 1995, CFKA is committed to making a real difference in our community. We are fortunate to have a high-performing and collaborative Board, Executive Director, and staff team. The organization has strong financial, governance, and operational oversight and is always striving to increase its value and contribution to bettering Kingston & Area. CFKA is seeking nominees with a broad range of skills, perspectives and expertise and is particularly interested in hearing from candidates who also offer a diversity of perspectives and lived experiences based on attributes such as: race, ethnicity, Indigenous status, age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, or rural perspective.
CFKA is looking for volunteers to serve in a variety of roles to help us make even greater community impact! Here are our current volunteer opportunities:
Board of Directors
We are looking for dynamic, community-minded individuals looking to make an impact in our community. If you’re curious and future-oriented, with the ability to operate collaboratively and knowledgeable about societal and community issues, serving on the Board of Directors is a way to make a real difference for community agencies and those they serve. The CFKA Board of Directors is a governance board that typically meets up to 7 times annually, and focuses on strategy, policy development, stewardship of invested assets, monitoring results, and appointing and evaluating the performance of the Executive Director. Directors are initially elected for a term of two (2) years, and may be elected to serve two (2) additional terms of three (3) years each.
Finance & Audit Committee
A standing commitee of the Board, the Committee’s main purpose is to work with the Executive Director to provide oversight of the Foundation’s financial dealings and report to the Board to ensure it is meeting its fiduciary responsibility. Specifically, the Committee will ensure that financial matters are being conducted legally, ethically, and efficiently, and that funds are being spent according to the approved budget in support of the mission of the organization and the funders’ guidelines. The Committee meets up to 5 times per year. Initital terms are one (1) year, with terms renewable for one (1) to three (3) years. For more information: Finance & Audit Committee Terms of Reference.
Governance Committee
A standing commitee of the Board, the Committee’s purpose is to evaluate and continuously improve CFKA’s overall approach to good governance, which encompasses oversight, structure, policies/infrastructure and performance; to undertake activities to support and evaluate the effectiveness of the Board, Committees and individual Board members; and to undertake Board member recruitment and on-boarding. The Committee normally meets bi-monthly, or as required to fulfil its responsibilities. We’re looking for community representatives who have governance experience and expertise. Investment Committee
A standing commitee of the Board, this Committee, following the Board-approved Investment Policy and “Strategic Asset Allocation Guidelines, the Committee’s primary functions shall be to oversee the investment of all moneys, restricted and unrestricted, that may from time to time become the property of, or be deposited in the care of CFKA. The Commitee meets quarterly. When appropriate, the Committee shall advise the Board on the possible implications of maintaining or changing the Investment Policy. Grants Strategy & Impact Committee (GSI)
A standing commitee of the Board, the Committee’s purpose is to provide recommendations to the Board regarding the granting priorities, strategic direction, and overall impact and integrity of CFKA’s granting programs, including the Community Grants Program, Stark Family Fund program, Sisters’ Impact Fund, Regina Rosen Food First Fund program, and other ad-hoc granting programs. Community Grants Committee
A sub-committee of the Grants Strategy & Impact (GSI) Committee, the purpose of the Community Grants Committee is to make recommendations on grants to be awarded from the Community Grants Program, in alignment with the program’s goal of supporting the work of charities and non-profit organizations within Kingston & Area; and review, evaluate, and score grant applications for ad hoc funding opportunities that arise from time to time. It provides its recommendations to the GSI Committee, and through it to the Board of Directors.
Youth Advisory Committee
A sub-committee of the Grants Strategy & Impact (GSI) Committee, the purpose of the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is to work as a catalyst to strengthen youth involvement in the community supporting eligible youth endeavours through grants from the YAC Youth Endowment Fund. The YAC does the review of applications and makes recommendations to the Board for distribution of funds. We’re looking for youth aged 14 to 22 to join this “youth for youth” community betterment opportunity.
