$50,000 granted to the Prince Edward County Hospital to purchase a new cardiac monitoring system

The Stark Family Fund, held at the Community Foundation, granted $50,000 to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF) earlier this month.

The grant will go towards the purchase of an upgraded cardiac monitoring system, which will be used in the County Hospital’s emergency department and inpatient unit. This funding will enable the medical team at PECMHF to better care for and accommodate patients with suspected and diagnosed cardiac conditions.

The Foundation’s gift was generously matched by the Beatty Family, who sit on the Stark Family Fund grant selection committee. The extra funds will support the ‘Back the Build Campaign’ for construction on the new hospital in Prince Edward County.

“We feel good knowing the legacy of the Stark Sisters helps those who require access to hospital care,” says Peter Finnegan, director and chairperson of the fundraising committee at the Foundation. “Through the Stark Family Fund, the entire community has benefitted and will continue to benefit from their forethought and generosity.”

In 2002, the Stark Family Fund was established at the Community Foundation with a generous bequest from the last two surviving members of the Stark family – Ival and Ruth. Through the fund, the accumulated estates of the five Stark sisters and their spouses are supporting worthy projects in Prince Edward County.

With their thoughtfully structured legacy gift, “the sisters” (as they are fondly referred to) continue to enhance the wellbeing of those in their community by supporting charities and causes that were important to them.
