The Grace Centre – Bigger and Better

Feb 15, 2017

“The Good Graces Café is a social enterprise pilot project.”

Congratulations to Southern Frontenac Community Services Corporation (SFCSC) on the grand opening of two repurposed portables at their Grace Centre Site in Sydenham.  Executive Director Tina Bailey and Board Member Linda Lysne joined other guests to celebrate and enjoy a coffee from their newly opened “Good Graces Café”.  The Community Foundation is proud to have supported both of these projects through its Community Grants program.

The portable expansion project allowed SFSCS to purchase, move and retrofit two former portable classrooms, allowing the organization to increase operational efficiencies by bringing together all of their services at the Grace Centre.  As well, they expect to realize an annual cost savings of $23,000 by consolidating all services at a single site.  Those saved dollars will all go directly to program delivery.

The Good Graces Café is a social enterprise pilot project.  It offers a safe place for seniors – particularly those who are lonely or feel isolated in the community – to enjoy a tea or coffee and muffin while socializing with others. The Café fills the void created when the only coffee shop in Sydenham closed.  They are in week three of their thirteen-week trial which seems to be going well; when we were there the place was filled!

CFKA is proud to have supported both of these projects which help to provide better health and social services to seniors, at-risk and low income families in need in the rural region and north Kingston.  Keep up the great work, SFCSC!
