“This program allowed us to break down barriers to participation identified in the poverty task force report.”

Grant: 2010-2015 – $20,000

Impact: 65,000 + students

Future: limitless

In 2010 the Boys & Girls Club of Kingston & Area received a very unique grant from the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area in support of a new after school transportation program.

The School Connections Transportation Program is a vital component of the Boys & Girls Club After School Connections program, allowing children and youth to access the Club. It eliminates the barrier of transportation.

The purchase of a 24 passenger bus allowed more children and youth without transportation to access the After-School programs. The grant made possible the hiring of a fully licensed driver and staff who provide supervision and support. Each and every day, the bus picked up riders for the After School Program from 8 different schools. This grant event allowed the Boys & Girls Club to accommodate additional transportation services during the school year for field trips, March Break Camps, Sports Leagues, Summer Camps, field trips and access to the Hellen Tuffs Nursery School.

With such a huge impact, the Boys & Girls Club are excited to continue the program for many years to come.

Without this significant grant from the Community Foundation funded through the Alcan Endowment Fund, this program wouldn’t be possible.
