Kingston Writersfest 150 Books

“The results are in: Canada’s 150 Best Books”

Congratulations to Kingston WritersFest for a great finale to their Canada 150 Best Books project last week. The project, funded through the Community Foundation’s special Canada 150 granting round, held an open voting process where anyone could nominate their favorite Canadian author/book. This process generated a list of top 150 Canadian books – as selected by everyday Canadian readers.

People then voted for their top picks – which resulted in a list of the “Top Ten Canadian Books” (which with some ties became a list of fifteen).

The project culminated with a free public event November 29 with readings from four of the top ten authors – Susan Olding, Heather Tucker, Rick Revelle, and Farzana Doctor, and an animated discussion moderated by Brett Christopher, Managing Director of the Thousand Islands Playhouse.

Click here to see the full list of 150 Best Books, and the resulting “Top Ten” list.  You can see how many you have read and enjoyed, and perhaps be inspired to add some of the titles to your reading list.  They also produced a video with some commentaries from authors reflecting on the importance of Canadian literature.

The Foundation was pleased to fund this project as part of its special Canada 150 granting opportunity, made possible through partnerships with the City of Kingston, Community Foundations of Canada, and the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th.
